Ocean Yacht Systems Limited (OYS) has just launched a market first for the yacht industry, with their electric driven range of vertical retracting and rotating thrusters.
Driven via a compact Permanent Magnet Motor, the new AC powered series from OYS is available in a power range of 30 – 400Kw. Available in a stroke to suit each vessel, the thruster can be used as bow or stern unit offering a solution previously only available using hydraulics.
The new electric design has already been supplied to a 50m high speed vessel where it provides a stern thruster solution. In this scenario, the thruster is also used in conjunction with OYS custom controls to solve a specific issue of ‘excessive swinging at anchor’.
Every thruster designed by OYS is bespoke and available to order now. The thruster has an option to rotate 360 degrees whilst thrusting at full power, and can be supplied rated for continuous commercial use.
